AUDIO TAPE TEST # TWENTY ONE “EXTORTION”
You will hear an audio script concerning a mission-related topic. This script will be followed by a conversation between two persons. This conversation will relate to the script, you will hear the tape only once. You will make notes of the script and of the conversation and from these notes you will have been instructed either to answer 10 (ten) questions or complete a written report of the incident. PAUSE
On Friday 9 May 2003, at 20.00 hours, an incident was reported to Police Station # 5 of a person being severely beaten. The caller witness stated that a beating incident had just occurred at the food store “Best Price”, which was located at Main Street - 25, grid reference 193-168. Immediately, a police patrol was dispatched to the scene of the incident. On arrival at the scene of the incident at 20.15 hours the officers observed, that the 42-year-old male food storeowner, had been very badly beaten on his face. Due to the very serious condition of the store owner’s injuries the officers decided to immediately transport the victim by ambulance to the local hospital for treatment.
The 37-year-old female witness to the incident said she and the storeowner had been friends for the last 3 years. At 19.50 hours, while she was six meters away from the incident hiding behind a bread display, she observed the owner of the store and the offender, a male that was about thirty years of age, 175 cm tall, very heavy build, with long black hair and beard, brown leather coat, white shirt and black pants arguing loudly.
The witness advised that she over heard the offender say to the storeowner that he was late in paying the 900 euros which were due to be paid at the beginning of each month, and that if the money was not paid he would destroy the store by fire.
The witness advised that the storeowner said to the offender that he refused to pay any more extortion money to him. The witness then stated that she observed the offender remove a small black club from his coat pocket with his right hand and strike the store owner five times in the face with the club while holding him by the neck with his left hand, and then put the club back in his coat pocket.
Further interview of the witness revealed that she was employed as a teacher at the local school, and resided at Airport Street-49, grid reference 836-742. The witness stated that she had never seen the offender in the store before the incident happened. The witness further stated to the officers that the offender, after having beaten the storeowner, drove away at a very high speed from the store, North on Main Street, in a large black, four door vehicle license # 639 KS 385. The witness further advised that as the offender was leaving the store she noticed the offender to have blood stains on his white shirt and on his brown leather coat.
The Officers proceeded to the local hospital to interview the victim of the beating to obtain further information about the identity of the offender. Upon arrival at the local hospital the Officers were advised by the attending doctor that the victim was in a coma condition and unable to speak with them. The doctor told the Officers that he would telephone them at Police Station # 5, as soon as the victim became conscience, and able to have a conversation.
The investigation into the incident of the extortion and beating will be continuing.
The following conversation is the dialogue between the police officer and the witness of the incident.

Police officer: Good morning. Thank you for coming to station #5 to talk to me.
Witness: You are welcome. I want the offender arrested for beating the storeowner.
Police officer: Could you please tell me where you reside.
Witness: I reside at Airport Street # 49, grid reference 836-742.
Police officer: What is your occupation and age?
Witness: I am 37 years old and employed as a teacher at a local school.
Police officer: What was your relationship to the storeowner?
Witness: We are friends for the last 3 years.
Police officer: Could you tell me when the incident happened?
Witness: It happened at 19.50 hours, 9 May 2003.
Police officer: Where did the incident happen?
Witness: The incident happened at the “Best Price” food store, Main Street - 25, grid reference 193-168.
Police officer: Can you tell me what happened to the victim?
Witness: While I was shopping at this store, I overheard and observed an argument between the offender and my friend, the storeowner.
Police officer: How far away from the incident were you?
Witness: I was six meters away from the argument, hiding behind a bread display.
Police officer: Could you describe the offender?
Witness: He was about thirty years of age, 175 cm tall, very heavy built, with long black hair and beard. He was wearing a brown leather coat, white shirt and black pants.
Police officer: What was the subject of the argument?
Witness: The argument was concerning the late payment of 900 euros that were due to be paid the beginning of each month or the offender would destroy the store by fire.

Witness: The storeowner told the offender that he refused to pay any more extortion money to him.

Witness: I saw the offender remove a small black club, with his right hand, from the pocket of his coat, and strike the store owner five times in the face with the club, while holding him by the neck with his left hand.

Witness: He put the club back in his coat pocket.
Police officer: What else do you remember?
Witness: As I saw the offender leaves the store. I noticed that his brown leather coat and his white shirt had bloodstains on them.

Witness: When I walked out from the store I saw the offender drove away at a very high speed North on Main Street.
Police officer: Do you remember what was the car like and what was license number?
Witness: It was a large black, four-door vehicle, license # 639 KS 385.
Police officer: Is there anything else that you can tell me?
Witness: When I telephoned the local hospital the doctor told me that the storeowner was in a serious condition.
Police officer: Yes, when the police arrived at the hospital they were advised by the attending doctor that the victim was in a coma condition and unable to speak with them.
Witness: The doctor also said, that he would call Police Station # 5 and me when my friend became conscience, and able to have a conversation.
Police officer: Thank you for coming in. We will keep you advised on this investigation of the extortion and beating.
